Yes, I know. I really should be making blogposts and YouTube videos more often, but there’s this thing called time. Some may think that in these coronatimes – where many things have slowed down or stopped completely – there’s so much time to be creative. But I won’t pretend that these times have made me more creative. And that’s no goal of mine either. I just want to be able to work and be there for existing and new clients, and it’s so nice when you actually manage to do a photoshoot, even though these are demanding times for us all. So, if you wonder – yes I’m still here and I’m still available for hire.
Luckily it hasn’t been completely quiet so far in 2020, and I have done a few jobs, both photography and video. And last week we managed to shoot the new collection for knitwear designer Linda Marveng, with our good old team. Linda who’s designing all the wonderful creations, her husband Michael Marveng-Puckett who is our good helper (and always makes great behind the scenes photos), Sissel Fylling doing hair/makeup/styling, Kaja Gjedebo who makes beautiful jewelry, the wonderful model Olivia Lindtein who’s been with us on two shoots now, and of course me behind the camera.
For the second time, we where so lucky to be able to shoot at the fantastic Bøler Church. Last time – in October 2017 – the weather was nice but cold, and the world was a pretty safe place. This time it was summer, sun and very hot, and everyone was washing hands and disinfecting constantly. Actually, the whole place had to be disinfected after our visit. Good rules!
Sun and no clouds equals harsh light and lots of contrast. So when both Linda Marveng and me prefers the look of natural light on these images, that means bringing out big scrims, reflectors and clever use of the different locations (sunlight hitting the ground while the model is in the shadows can work winders as a fill light). And my Lastolite Skylite panels never disappoint! They are lightweight, easy to set up, and creates beautiful light. And my trusty old large California Sunbounce reflector is also with me. It has travelled the world for almost 15 years, and it’s still one of my favourites.
I shot the whole thing on my Sony a7RIII with the fantastic Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM lens. This lens is pure magic! Without doubt the best lens I have ever used! It’s almost exactly 1 year since I switched to Sony, and I’m extremely happy I did. The quality of the equipment and the files it delivers have surpassed all my expectations. The Sony equipment fits the way I work perfectly, and it’s pure joy developing the files in Capture One 20.
All in all I think we did a really good job on this one, and I’m looking forward to being able to share some of the images. But, I grabbed some close-up portraits of Olivia during the shoot as well, and here’s one of them.
